president of the Hawaii Association of International Buddhists.
Welcoming Address -- Rev. Tabrah's essay was given
as a welcoming address to the Conference on Buddhism and Leadership
for Peace, held at the University of Hawaii, and sponsored by the Dae
Won Sa Buddhist Temple and the Department of Philosophy at the

Essay on Birth of Americanized Buddhism: Yemyo Imamura
-- A scholarly summary of the Ph.D. thesis of Dr. Moriya Tomoe
of Meiji Gakuin University, presenting the historical and religious
significance of Yemyo Imamura, the second Bishop of the Honpa
Hongwanji Mission in Hawaii, from 1900-32. He developed Buddhism along
democratic lines and separated from the nationalist ideology that was
forming in Japan. He criticized the nativist approach to democracy in
